Class size & Registration: class size is limited; attendance requires pre-registration with 50% deposit (non-refundable if attendance canceled less than 1 week in advance). Materials Fee: **** A word about the materials fee: amounts are approximate--- they could end up less per person, and probably not more per person than is indicated unless everyone gets in a frenzy and cleans me out. I have lots of ‘stuff’ in my studio, much of which is available to students to use during classes…. Along those lines, if you forget something, do not stress out... I probably have it or something that will work (except for your lunch… don’t forget that!). The idea is to have fun, learn something, get away from stress, and be silly in a room with a bunch of other silly people. No worries.
Duration: 10:30 – 3:00 (4 1/2 hrs. with breaks), various dates; others by special arrangement. Suggestions/requests welcome.
** Students bring sack lunch (there is a microwave for food, a small refrigerator, bottled water, various teas) ** Please bring paper and pencil/pen if you like to take notes ** Because many folks are scent sensitive, please do not wear perfume/scents to class--- thank you ** Parking: limited onsite parking, close street parking available
**** Students bring the item in italics, I will provide the other items… but if you have particular items/colors that you want to use, please bring them ****.
Gossamer Felting: Materials fee: $15 - $20 (process class)
I provide: some sheer base fabric, variety of dyed merino wool, and misc. fibers, yarns and fabrics, felting apparatus (pipe, solar pool cover, voile & ties, bucket, plastic) soap (I use Ivory liquid--- if that is a problem for you, bring your own low phosphate soap), water, misc. studio supplies. This class does not include dyeing; that is another, more extended class.
You bring: muscle, muscle, and more muscle! Bring a very sheer/airy fabric (1 yard or good sized remnants/scraps, color/pattern of your choice) for your base fabric (you will be felting into it)---to determine if it is sheer enough, hold it up to your mouth and try to blow through it--- if you can feel your breath on the other side as you blow through the fabric, it will work as a base for felting)--- any fibers, embellishments, threads, yarns, accent fabrics you wish to incorporate into your felt (whatever it is must be able to withstand soap/water/rolling etc.). Wear comfortable shoes (you will be standing most of the time), clothes that can get wet and/or a studio apron, rubber gloves if extended soap/water/hot water contact is problematic. Bring plastic bags to transport your wet pieces home. *** Felting is very physical, and can be hard on your back, wrists, and arms--- please be honest with yourself and sensible about what you feel you can do without injuring or exhausting yourself.
Felting-in-a-Bag: Materials fee: $15 (process class)
I provide: variety of dyed merino wool, misc. fibers and embellishments, felting apparatus, plastic bags, Ivory liquid soap, misc. studio supplies.
You bring: muscle (but not as much as you need for Gossamer Felting), any small bits and pieces of fiber/ fabric that you might want to felt into your piece. Wear comfortable shoes (you will be standing most of the time), clothes that can get wet and/or a studio apron, rubber gloves if extended soap/water/hot water contact is problematic. *** This type of felting is not as physical as other types, but it can still be a little hard on your back, wrists/fingers, and arms--- please be honest with yourself and sensible about what you feel you can do without injuring or exhausting yourself.
Fiber Mosaic 2D: Materials fee: $15 - $20 (process class)
I provide: magazines, newspapers, gel, brushes, containers, misc. studio supplies and water. I also will have miscellaneous bits and pieces for you to use in your mosaic if you choose to.
You bring: print images of choice (consider copyright) background/base fabric (it would provide the ‘grout’ look depending on how you use it), fabric and interesting fibers/papers for mosaic (be sure to include a variety of weights and textures if you wish).
Fiber Mosaic 3D: Materials fee: $20 (process/project class)
I provide: magazines, newspapers, gel, brushes, containers, misc. studio supplies, miscellaneous fabrics and bits and pieces for you to use if you wish, base form (I will provide you with a Styrofoam wig head).
You bring: your choice of some print images (consider copyright), background fabric if desired (it would provide the ‘grout’ look if you choose to make your mosaic in that manner), selection of fabric and fibers--- be sure to include different weights/textures etc., misc. papers for mosaic, chains, charms, twigs, leaves, a variety of embellishments if you wish, a pen/craft knife (don’t purchase if you don’t have one; there are some here at the studio) for carving the wig head if you wish.
Thread Web & Cord Making: Materials fee: $15 - $20 (process class)
I provide: miscellaneous fiber and embellishment bits and pieces, water-soluble laundry bags, misc. studio supplies.
You bring: sewing machine capable of straight & zigzag stitching (if your machine cannot drop its feed dogs, please bring the feed dog plastic cover or whatever you use in order to do free-motion sewing). For Thread Web, you will need: universal foot (Teflon foot strongly recommended; feed dogs will be up). Large variety of threads (I use old threads for the decorative part of the thread web, not threads that I would normally sew with but--- you can use any threads you wish, but there is no need for expensive threads), sewing thread/bobbins for the sewing part of the Thread Web, strings, ribbons, yarns, stitchable embellishments, (all able to get totally wet, and must be able to be sewn through), scissors and/or rotary cutter (I have mats & rulers), lots and lots of pins. For Cord Making, you will need a darning foot and/or beading foot; feed dogs will be up or down, depending on method/preference). You will be able to use many of the same types of supplies you bring for Thread Web, so bring enough for both techniques. You will also need to bring a small variety of fabrics that you will cut into narrow lengths --- don’t precut these, please wait until class). If you have an extension cord for your machine, please bring it.
FiberScapes & Foiling: Materials fee: $15 - $20 (process class)
I provide: Hot Sticky Stuff, Clear Textile Adhesive, foil selection, parchment paper, bits and pieces of fiber & embellishments, beads etc., craft iron.
You bring: background fabric (remnants/scraps, large enough to be the ‘canvas’ for your FiberScape), very sheer tulle or other sheer, see-through-able fabrics, interesting papers, cellophanes, tyvek, etc., yarns, threads, ribbons (most will be cut into small/eclectic pieces), embellishments, Angelina, misc. fibers & fabrics, sequins etc. Bring anything you feel will be interesting when included in an impressionistic fiber collage. *** All must be able to withstand/survive heat unless they are stitched on after the FiberScapes sandwich is created. Bring some hand sewing needles, threads, embellishing threads in case you want to do some hand embellishing. If you have a craft iron, you might want to bring it--- I have one or two, a couple more might be handy.

I provide: dyed, painted fabric scraps, muslin, template, paints, odd beads and embellishments, fiberfill.
You bring: * sewing machine, universal foot * (this class can be done without a sewing machine if you want to hand stitch the pieces--- if so, bring hand sewing needles and appropriately strong threads--- this project can also be stitched with a big-eyed-needle and thick wools/string/threads --- think outside that proverbial box), hand/machine sewing threads/bobbins, embellishing threads and items (charms, buttons etc,), beading needle and thread if you are going to do small bead beading (there are some here if you forget or don’t have any).

I provide: newspapers, magazines etc., support, misc. papers and ‘stuff’, acrylic inks, Pearl Ex, Treasure Gold, glitter etc., glue & glue brushes, mark makers, gel, misc. studio supplies, mixed media bits and pieces.
